Instructions
-
Step 1: Combine the Ingredients
-
Add the 30 ounces of coconut oil, 6 ounces of food-grade mineral oil, and 5 ounces of beeswax pellets into a large, heat-safe bowl or the top pot of a double boiler.
Step 2: Melt the Mixture
-
Double Boiler Method (Recommended for safety/even heat): Set the bowl over a pot of simmering water. Stir continuously until the beeswax is fully dissolved and the mixture is a clear, homogenous liquid.
-
Microwave Method (For speed): Heat the mixture in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring well after each interval. Continue heating and stirring until the mixture is fully liquid and there are no solid pieces of beeswax remaining.
Step 3: Pour and Cool
-
Carefully pour the hot liquid Wood Butter into clean, 4-ounce canning or decorative jars with lids.
-
Let the jars cool completely to room temperature. The mixture will solidify into a soft, smooth "butter" consistency. Once cooled, secure the lids.
Step 4: Storage
-
Store the sealed jars of Wood Butter at room temperature. It has an excellent shelf life, but check the expiration dates on your mineral and coconut oil for guidance.

How to Apply Wood Butter
-
1. Clean the Wood
Ensure your wooden cutting board or utensil is freshly washed and completely dry before applying the conditioner.
2. Apply Generously
Use your clean hands or a paper towel to scoop a generous amount of Wood Butter from the jar. Rub the butter directly onto the wood surface, working it into the grain and covering all sides.
3. Let it Soak
Allow the wood to fully absorb the conditioning oils. Let the wood sit for 30 minutes to 1 hour. For very dry or newly sanded wood, you may let it sit overnight.
4. Buff to Finish
Using a clean, dry microfiber cloth or lint-free towel, firmly buff the entire wood surface to remove any excess butter. This step creates a smooth, dry finish that protects the wood.
5. Reapply
Reapply Wood Butter as needed, especially if the wood looks dull, feels rough, or after a heavy washing.
